TRANSHUMANT (2013) short film with live music performance
(excerpts)
music: Constantin Basica
audio recording from live performance by Ensemble Dal Niente at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, Stanford University, CA, USA
The title of the film is derived from "transhumance", which is the seasonal movement of livestock due to climate change. The short film circles around the idea of globalization, a phenomenon that is known to affect national identities and traditions. In the modern world, the protagonist is not able to adapt to progress at the same pace as his surroundings. Simultaneously, he feels alienated from his native environment. I used visual effects to illustrate the fear of the character for the unknown and, also, the dichotomy of modern versus traditional.
